Get Up To Speed

Get up to Speed with STEM is a live, annual, one-day showcase event which aims to introduce, inform and inspire students, parents and teachers about the world of work in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing (STEM) sectors. It’s a superb, highly interactive careers showcase which, for over ten years, has promoted STEM-related career opportunities to over 34,000 young people, educators and families from across the Sheffield City Region and beyond.

EMPLOYABILITY ACADEMY

Gaining qualifications is a key stepping stone to future employment, but qualifications alone do not guarantee success in finding, keeping and progressing in employment. 

Our academy gives students the opportunity to gain and improve upon key skills and personal attributes that employers are looking for – readying them for the world of work.

Our fun and interactive programme is designed for students aged 14-18 who are eager to get a head start and prepare for adult life and a successful career – contributing to Gatsby Benchmarks 4, 5, 6 and 7.

DR PLEMING’S DELTA WINGS PROJECT
An exclusive challenge in partnership with Vulcan to the Sky Trust, CBE+ and Delta Academies Trust which tasks primary and secondary students with helping to build models and exhibits for the new home of the Vulcan XH558 celebrating the Delta Wing Tips.

OPERATION VULCAN
A challenge which saw secondary school students design a new exhibit for the Vulcan XH558 Bomb Bay Fuel Tank which will be created and displayed in the new home of the jet.

AMETEK LAND INNOVATION CHALLENGE
The challenge focused on the recycling of glass bottles. In order to make the glass industry more efficient, we asked schools to present ideas around multi-use of bottles.

CITYFIBRE CHALLENGE
We worked closely with CityFibre and Rotherham Titans to create a challenge which tasked students with designing an app which tackled health challenges that young people face around eating and exercise. Students we’re asked to design a mobile app which raises awareness around these health issues, tracks progress towards a healthier lifestyle and encourages healthier eating and physical activity.  

 

GULLYFEST

GULLYFEST

GULLYfest is a collaborative project with Gulliver’s Valley which encourages primary aged children to learn and use Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills to design and build aspects of theme parks. It also introduces them to the huge variety of roles involved in running a theme park – from customer service, to maintenance and ride operators!

CAREERS COMPASS

CAREERS COMPASS

A full day event designed for a whole school or targeted year groups modelled on a Careers Compass that shows the children the different routes they could take into employment. Introducing the employability skills and attitudes they will need for the world of work, in an age appropriate way.

WHAT EMPLOYERS WANT

A day where you can be supported by representatives of local businesses who spend time discussing their roles and help ready our attendees for the world of work, this includes presentations and mock interviews. The day concludes with self-reflection, self-assessment, and personal development planning. A fantastic initiative to prepare your students for applying for jobs and interviews which will look great on their CV’s.

A full day of activity introducing the skills, attributes and knowledge required for the world of work. The day involves experiencing a range of interactive sessions on industry-related themes and will give you the basic key skills to prepare you for employment.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Introducing students to the history and heritage around Engineering and Manufacturing in the region. Discovering what the industry looks like today and what the future could be. Then taking all this learning and working in a team to deliver a creative showcase to an invited audience telling this story.

INDISPENSIBLE ME

A full day training course designed to help young people develop essential employability skills. The course includes understanding self and others, communication skills, team building, importance of values and attributes for work.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths (STEAM) are all around us and impact daily on our lives. This programme is designed to introduce children to our wonderful world and how everything is impacted on by STEAM. It cuts across all aspects of the curriculum. Designed in collaboration with individual schools this is a way of embedding STEAM in all aspects of learning in a fun and interactive way.
